Doug was born and raised in Havre, Montana, and will enter his thirteenth year of coaching the MSUN rodeo team. He graduated from MSUN in 2005 with a degree in agriculture operations and business technology.
 
Doug was a member of the rodeo team for MSUN all four years of college, and was the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Big Sky Region Champion Saddle Bronc Rider in 2002-2003. Doug’s list of accomplishments includes being a two-time State High School Champion, two-time College National Finals qualifier, six-time Northern Rodeo Association qualifier, two-time Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit finalist in Saddle Bronc Riding, and winning a National Circuit Championships in the WTRC.
 
The MSU-Northern Rodeo team received Rodeo of the Year in 2020 and Doug was selected Big Sky Region Coach of the Year in 2022 and was a finalist for National Coach of the Year in 2022. During his time at Northern, Doug has sent 16 student-athletes to the CNFR with 4 finishing
within the top 12 in the nation. He also qualified 3 Women’s Teams in the 2023-2034,2022-2023, & 2021-2022 seasons for the College National Finals Rodeo. Doug is excited to work with the MSUN Rodeo athletes and combine education and rodeo.
