Lights Football close out season with loss to College of Idaho

Box Score Havre, Mont.-  The Lights football team hosted the College of Idaho Saturday on senior day at Blue Pony Stadium.  This was the final game of the season for both teams.
To start the game C of I's sophomore running back Colby Brown scored on a 15-yard run and 2 drives later freshman kicker Kyle Mitchell tacked on a 26-yard field goal.  Lights junior kicker Tommy Langley nailed a 51-yard field goal midway into the quarter that broke the former record of 47-yards made by Luke McKinley in 2007.  At the end of the first quarter, the Yotes led with a score of 10-3.
Northern started off the second quarter with a costly turnover when junior quarterback Caleb McLaren threw an interception at the College of Idaho 5-yard line.  The Yotes capitalized on the turnover by going the length of the field to score on a 16-yard rushing touchdown by junior running back Zach Garzoli.  At the break, the score was 17-3 in favor of C of I.
The Lights started their first drive of the third quarter with Langley's second field goal of the day, this time scoring from 41-yards out.  C of I scored on a quarterback keeper by freshman Darius-James Peterson late in the quarter to push the lead to 24-6.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Northern defense forced two Yotes' turnovers.  Senior defensive back Logan Sprouse intercepted a pass in the end zone (fourth of the season) and senior defensive back Garrett Jericoff forced a fumble that was recovered by junior linebacker Garet Fowler.  C of I scored once more in the quarter on a 27-yard run to put the Yotes up 31-6.  The Lights would also score once more before the end of the game.  Senior running back Zach McKinley ran for a 45-yard gain to set himself up for a 2-yard touchdown on the very next play.  The final score of the game was 31-13.  Northern finished the season with a record of 1-9 and C of I finished with a record of 4-7.
