Game Recap:
The MSU-Northern Skylights held the No.11 Carroll College Saints to their third lowest scoring performance of the season, but came up just shy of the upset at 40-47. The first quarter of action saw a defensive battle as neither team scored in double-digits at the closing of the stanza with CC up 8-6. Midway through the second quarter, a three-point shot from senior guard
Peyton Filius gave Northern a four-point lead at 14-10. The Saints tied the game a 15-15 with 1:50 left in the half and scored four unanswered points to take the 19-15 lead at the intermission.
The Skylights played from behind the entire third quarter with the Saints building their largest lead of the game at the :33 mark up 32-20. Late in the closing seconds of play, Filius hit another three-pointer to move the Skylights within six points but the effort was too late. Northern was paced by freshman forward
Tiara Gilham, who tallied a double double (11 points, 11 rebounds), and senior guards Filius and
Brandy Lambourne (each with nine points).
Stat of the Night: Despite the loss, the Skylights managed to hold the Saints to 0-of-4 from beyond the arc. The Saints average 18 three-point attempts and six makes a game. Â
The Skylights Now: Northern is now 2-13 in Frontier Conference play and fall to 10-16 overall.
