Day One At NAIA Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships

The first day of NAIA Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships wrapped-up Friday afternoon on the campus of Montana State University-Northern in Havre, MT.  This marks the return of the CCC Regional Championships, as the 2021 event was canceled.
 
Montana State University-Northern finished the day in the lead with 69 team points.  Eastern Oregon finished in second place with 64.5 points, while Menlo College sits in third at 62.5.  Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University tallied 60.5 points on the day, good for fourth place.
 
Two previous CCC champions are undefeated heading into day two.  Jordan Komac of the University of Providence (165 pounds) and Issac Bartel from Montana State-Northern (197 pounds), went 1-0 and 2-0 on the day, respectively.  Bartel is a two-time NAIA national champion.
 
Other noteworthy performances include Riley Siason (Menlo) at 125 pounds.  He was the 2020 runner-up at the CCC Championships and is undefeated heading into day two.  Siason finished in sixth place at the 2019-2020 NAIA Wrestling Championships.
 
Saturday will also feature a rematch of note.  At 174 pounds, Armon Fayyazi (Vanguard) and Keegan Mulhill (Eastern Oregon) will square off in one semi-final.  At the 2020 CCC Championships, Fayyazi and Mulhill met for third place with Mulhill claiming an 11-8 decision.
 
At 285 pounds, Noel Orozco (Eastern Oregon) is undefeated heading into day two.  Orozco finished in third place at the 2020 CCC Championships.
Wrestling will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with championship matches scheduled for 5 p.m. MDT.
