Skylights Win First Match of the Season

Story of the Match:
The MSU-Northern Skylights volleyball team beat Valley City State University on Thursday morning at Valley City State University. The MSU-Northern Skylights won in four sets (25-23, 25-22, 23-25, and 25-20).

The first set was a nail bitter until the Skylights went on a 7-0 run to take the lead 16-10. Northern almost lost the lead, as Valley City went on a 5-0 run to make them one point to tying the game. The Skylights were able to finish strong as they won the first set.

In the second set, Northern took the lead from the beginning and never looked back. During the third set, the Skylights took the lead early. The Vikings were going away, as they tied the game for the first time during the set (18-18). The set went back and fourth as, Valley City came out with the win.

The Vikings took the lead early in the fourth set, as the Skylights came back and went on a 10-0 run to take the lead 15-9. The Skylights were able the keep the lead to take the match.

Stars of the Match:
The Skylights were led by Jessalyn Chviliceck, who tallied 15 kills and a hitting percentage of .224. Alana Graves added 10 kills and had seven assistant blocks. Kaitlin Murdock led the team in digs with 23. Emily Feller led the team in assists with 26.

The Vikings were led by Bailey Nelson who had 17 kills with a hitting percentage of .278. Emma Lucas added 11 kills. Delani Clarke and JayCee Richter each had 18 digs on the day. Sadie Hansen led the team in assists with 25.

Stats of the Match:
MSU-Northern had a hitting percentage of .164 on the day, while the Vikings hit .095. Northern also had 80 digs to Valley City had 83.
