In the first of two duals between in-state rivals, the University of Providence Argos downed the MSU-Northern Lights 27-10 on Wednesday night in Havre. The next matchup between the two nationally-ranked programs will take place February 8 in Billings at Lockwood High School.
The Lights got wins from
Tanner Cook (125 pounds),
Devin Crawford (165 pounds), and
NaKoda Siegel (174 pounds). Cook won via major decision over Deandre Coles. Crawford defeated Bridger Hall by decision 4-1, and Siegel won by decision 7-3.
On the night, the Argos took a total of seven matches including Sawyer Hobbs, who won by fall over
Carl Hansen, and K.C. Buday, who won by technical fall over
Shane Mattson.
The Lights came into the match ranked seventh in the NAIA while the Argos were just one spot behind in eighth. The night saw ten different nationally-ranked wrestlers take the mat.
The Lights will take to the road for the Grand View Open this weekend in Des Moines, Iowa. The event will feature some of the top NAIA teams in the nation.
