On a day when your defense and offense dominate the game, you would think you would come away with a win. The Lights dropped a 21-17 decision to Mayville State today, despite a dominant performance from their defense and a strong offensive showing, including 282 yards passing from their QB
Kendall O'Neill.
The Lights held Mayville to just one first down in the second half but mistakes on offense lead to the 3-point loss. Four unsportsmanlike conduct penalties curtailed drives, including forcing the Lights to kick a field goal, instead of tying the game with a TD.
The Lights racked up 406 yards in total offense with
Devin Shelton picking up a season high 197 yards on 9 receptions. The Lights had 21 first downs, while Mayville had just 12.
Roman Bradley was the top rusher with 74 yards on 20 carries with two touchdowns.
Mayville completed only one pass but used 8 different rushers to put up 184 yards on the ground. Landon Olson was the Comets leading rusher with 78 yards on 11 carries.
The Lights will be back home next Saturday Oct. 25
th as they host Rocky Mountain College. Game time is 12 Noon at Tilleman Field.
