The MSU-Northern Skylights earned a big conference win over (RV) Montana Tech, defeating the Orediggers in four sets (23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-20).
It was a battle from start to finish. Northern opened the first set with a 5-0 run to take a 13-8 lead, but Tech rallied late with a 5-0 run of their own to steal the set. The Skylights responded in the second, jumping out to a 14-6 advantage. The Orediggers fought back within one (14-13), but Northern held strong to even the match.
In the third, the Skylights led early 12-8 before Montana Tech surged ahead 20-19. Northern answered with a decisive 6-1 run to close out the set and take the match lead. The Skylights carried that momentum into the fourth, taking control early at 10-4 and extending the lead to 20-12. Despite an Oredigger push late, Northern sealed the win.
The Skylights tallied 60 kills with a .236 hitting percentage, along with 54 assists, 72 digs, and 13 blocks. Macy Uffelman led the attack with 15 kills and a .367 hitting percentage. Macee Selman added 11 kills, 27 assists, and 16 digs, while Baily Egan anchored the defense with 17 digs.
Montana Tech finished with 56 kills and a .185 hitting percentage. Payton Tradwell recorded 18 kills, while Rhys Layton tallied 49 assists. Emmy Green and Austin Long each collected 15 digs.
With the win, Northern improves to 9-8 overall and 7-4 in Frontier Conference play.
The Skylights will hit the road to face Providence in Great Falls on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m.
