The Montana State University–Northern Lights put up a strong fight on the road Saturday but came up short, falling 37–20 to Dickinson State.
After a slow start that included a first-quarter safety, the Lights found rhythm in the second. Quarterback
Ethan Maroni connected with
Mason Ahrins for a 30-yard touchdown and later capped another drive when
Crawford Terry recovered a blocked punt for a score, giving Northern a 14–9 halftime lead.
Dickinson responded in the third with two passing touchdowns and never looked back, outscoring Northern 28–6 in the second half.
Maroni led the Lights with
148 yards passing (14-of-27) and
one touchdown, while also rushing for
45 yards and a score.
Ala'i Williams added
34 yards on 14 carries. Through the air,
Devin Shelton hauled in
five receptions for 69 yards, and
Colter Woldstad caught
six for 37 yards.
Defensively, Northern forced one interception and held strong early, but Dickinson's balanced attack—
223 yards passing and
261 rushing—proved decisive.
The Lights totaled
227 yards of offense, compared to
484 for the Blue Hawks.
Montana State–Northern (1–8, 0–4) returns home next weekend looking to bounce back as conference play continues.
