The Montana State University–Northern Skylights went toe-to-toe with Texas A&M–San Antonio on Saturday night but came up just short, falling 82–80 in a hard-fought non-conference matchup.
The Skylights came out strong, knocking down shots from deep and controlling the boards early. Northern's offense flowed efficiently behind sharp perimeter shooting, going 11-for-25 from beyond the arc. The Skylights held a narrow edge through much of the first half, but the Jaguars closed the second quarter on a run to take a slim lead into halftime.
In the second half, the game remained a back-and-forth battle. Northern dominated the glass, outrebounding Texas A&M–San Antonio 47–29, and converted from the free-throw line, hitting 21 of 25 attempts. However, costly turnovers and second-chance opportunities kept the Roadrunners in front.
The Skylights had a final chance to tie or win in the closing seconds, but their last-second shot rimmed out as time expired.
Northern finished the game shooting 36 percent from the field and 44 percent from three. The Jaguars countered with 46 percent shooting overall and a 47 percent clip from deep. The Skylights had five players in double digits, as Ciera Agasive and
Becky Melcher had 19 each. Canzas
HisBadHorse added a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Jaguars were led by Evelyn Lorenzo who had 29 points and five assists.
Despite the loss, Montana State University–Northern showed resilience and balance on both ends of the floor. The Skylights will look to regroup as they continue their road trip, taking on their next opponent on November 7 against Wayland Baptist University in Great Falls at 2pm.
