The Montana State University-Northern wrestling team hosted the University of Providence on Tuesday night in the Armory Gym, but the visiting Argos came away with a strong 42-4 dual win over the Lights.
Providence opened the dual with several dominant performances in the lighter weights. At 125 pounds, Boden Banta earned a 9-0 major decision over Tobey Forman to put the Argos on the board. Blake Woolsey followed with a fall at 133 pounds over Kolten Powers in 4:34, extending the lead to 10-0.
At 141, Providence's Tristan Bremer picked up an 11-4 decision against Caleb Morales, and Cade White earned another major decision at 149, defeating Keegan Hanson 15-3. Hunter Hobbs kept the Argo momentum going with a first-period pin over Ryan Graves in just 1:03 at 157 pounds.
The Lights got on the board at 165 pounds when Justin Windauer delivered a strong performance, earning a 14-5 major decision over Irish Furthmyre to claim Northern's lone win of the night.
Providence responded quickly, as Brady Ellison scored a fall over Diego Manzo in 1:35 at 174, followed by a 14-0 major decision from Sawyer Hobbs over Cade Gubler at 184 pounds. The Argos added a forfeit win at 197, and Ethan DeRoche closed out the dual with a narrow 4-1 decision over Shane Mattson at heavyweight.
The Lights will look to bounce back as they head to Des Moines, Iowa to compete at the Grand View Open on Saturday.
