In Great Falls, the Montana State University–Northern Skylights overturned an early deficit and defeated the Providence Argonauts 62–53 to open Frontier Conference opener.
After a slow start — trailing 6–13 at the end of the first quarter — Northern flipped the script in the second, outscoring Providence 15–6 to take the momentum and a halftime lead. From there, the Skylights never looked back, holding off the Argos across a gritty second half. The third quarter stayed tight (20–18), but in the fourth, Northern pulled away with a 21–16 margin.
Several key contributors powered the win. Lauren Gunn logged 15 points on efficient shooting, while Taya Trottier added 11 on her way to helping anchor the offense. Inside, Canzas HisBadHorse chipped in 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds, giving the Skylights presence on the boards. Northern shot about 41.7 percent overall and 35.3 percent from three, showing both poise and execution once they found their rhythm.
For Providence, the early burst-built promise, but the offense faltered down the stretch. Brooke Dial scored 13 points but struggled from the field and from deep. Madi Reibel contributed 12 off the bench, but the Argonauts as a team shot under 38 percent from the field, around 27 percent from three, and only 33 percent from the free-throw line — margins that proved costly.
The turning point came in the second quarter when Northern tightened defensively and the offense found its stride, shifting control of the contest. In the fourth quarter, the Skylights' depth and execution carried them home.
The Skylights push to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in Conference play. Northern looks to keep the momentum into Sundays game against Minot State at home at 1pm.
