The MSU-Northern fall in their final game of the season against Dakota State 50-3.
The Trojans wasted no time taking control. On their opening possession, Preston Iverson capped a steady drive with a
12-yard touchdown run to give Dakota State the early lead. Moments later, the Trojans struck again when Tray Hettick found Lane VanderWal for a
20-yard touchdown, pushing the advantage to 14–0.
Just six seconds after the ensuing kickoff, Dakota State delivered another blow. After a quick takeaway, Hettick connected with Melek Ford on an
8-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 20–0 by the end of the first quarter.
Northern's lone points came late in the second quarter, when
Tate O'Neill drilled a
22-yard field goal to cut the margin to 20–3. But the Trojans responded before halftime, with Ford hauling in his second score of the afternoon on a
9-yard reception, sending Dakota State into the breakup 26–3.
The Trojans continued to pour it on in the second half. Adrian Villanueva hit a
42-yard field goal in the third quarter, and Dakota State closed the game with three fourth-quarter touchdowns. Kacey Cauley entered at quarterback and threw a
2-yard touchdown to VanderWal, followed by a
3-yard scoring pass to Dwyer on a 90-yard march. Hettick later returned to hit Ford for his
third touchdown reception of the game, sealing the 50-3 final.
Dakota State finished with
322 total yards, including
241 through the air, while the Lights were limited to just
88 yards of offense. The Trojans' defense forced multiple turnovers, held Northern to
9 rushing yards, and allowed no touchdowns.
Maroni attempted
22 passes, completing 8 for
79 yards, though he threw
2 interceptions.
On the ground, he carried the ball
14 times, although for
–8 yards, showing that Dakota State's defense was able to contain his rushing threat. Defensivly, Cline led the team in total tackles:
11 (5 solo, 6 assisted) and added
1.5 tackles for loss (TFL), helping anchor the Light's defensive front.
Northern ends its season at
1–10.
