On Friday evening in Helena, Montana, the Northern Skylights (18-12, 15-7 in conference) took on the No. 6 Bruins (26-3, 20-2) in a showdown in the Frontier Conference Tournament. The night unfolded into a dramatic five-set duel, with Bellevue ultimately prevailing 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 19-25, 15-12).
The opening set was tight from the start, with BelleÂvue edging out Northern Lights 25-23 to take the early lead. In the second set the Skylights responded, rallying to a 25-23 win and drawing level. Bellevue struck back in the third, securing a more comfortable 25-18 margin. But Northern were not done: they captured set four 25-19 to force a decisive fifth set.
In the final set, Bellevue held their composure, closing out the match 15-12 to notch a significant road victory.
Statistically, Skylights played with heart: freshman outside hitter Lexi Jones delivered 13 kills on 19 attempts, posting a blistering .526 hitting percentage and scoring 16 points. Macee Selman added 17 kills on 35 attempts (.257) for 20 points. Defensively, Baily Egan added 28 digs. For Bellevue, Kealy Kiviniemi chipped in 14 kills on 40 attempts (.275) and 15 points, while Eve Fountain delivered 13 kills on 37 attempts (.216) and 16 points.
