Montana State University–Northern put together a strong, steady performance on Saturday afternoon, earning a 74–54 win over Dickinson State in Frontier Conference play. The Skylights led just 19–18 after the first quarter, but from that point forward they took control on both ends of the floor. Northern tightened up defensively in the second period, allowing only 11 points, and carried a 39–29 lead into halftime.
The third quarter proved to be the turning point, as the Skylights outscored the Blue Hawks 19–13 and pushed the margin into double digits for good. Northern's balance and efficiency continued into the fourth, where they maintained their advantage and closed out a comfortable home victory.
Lauren Gunn led MSU–Northern delivering one of the most complete performances of the night, finishing with 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. while Canzas HisBadHorse with 15 points going 6-11 from the field. Ciera Agasiva added 11 points, helping the Skylights control the boards and maintain possession throughout the game. As a team, Northern shot 50 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from beyond the arc, turning in one of their most efficient offensive outings of the season.
Dickinson State was paced by Anhelica Shanrock with 13 points, but the Blue Hawks struggled to generate consistent scoring opportunities, shooting just 37.7 percent from the floor and 21.7 percent from three. After keeping things close early, Dickinson couldn't match Northern's runs in the second half and never threatened a comeback.
The Skylights move to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in Conference. The Skylights play tomorrow at 12pm against Bismarck State.
