Northern Earns Gritty 110–100 Double-Overtime Road Win

In a thrilling double-overtime road victory, Montana State University-Northern held off Mayville State 110–100 in a gritty Frontier Conference battle on Saturday night. The back-and-forth contest featured fierce intensity, momentum swings, and clutch plays down the stretch as both teams pushed the pace and battled for every possession.

The first half set the tone for a tight game, with Northern and Mayville State exchanging baskets and neither squad able to build a sustained lead. Both teams scored 45 points in the opening 20 minutes, underscoring the offensive firepower on display.

As regulation time expired tied — and again after the first overtime — the contest headed into a second extra period, where the Lights found just enough energy on both ends of the floor to secure the win.

Montana State-Northern (MT):
  • Cinque Maxwell led all scorers with 22 points, adding 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
  • Leon Sayers IV also posted 22 points on efficient shooting.
  • Luke Holecek contributed 21 points, including timely buckets in the second half and overtime.
  • Tracen Jilot chipped in 15 points off the bench, giving Northern a spark in extended minutes.
Northern shot over 53 percent from the field and converted 87.5 percent of their free throws, which proved critical in late-game situations. They also outpaced Mayville State in rebounds and assists, showcasing a well-rounded effort.
Mayville State:
  • Christian Bowen-Webb paced the Comets with 27 points, including several big shots to keep the game competitive.
  • Kuon Kuon added 21 points and 6 rebounds.
  • Isaiah Smith put up 17 points with 9 rebounds.
  • Malik Siggers contributed 19 points off the bench.
Mayville State shot over 54 percent from the field and hit 40 percent of three-point attempts, but turnovers and Northern's ability to capitalize on free throws and offensive rebounds shifted the balance late.
Th Lights improve to 10-5 overall and 5-4 in conference play. The Skylights will head to Dillon and Butte next weekend to play in a Frontier Conference match up against Montana Western and Montana Tech.
