Montana State University-Northern Skylights dropped a four-set Frontier Conference matchup to Dickinson State University Friday evening, falling 25-20, 20-25, 25-19, 25-15 at Scott Gymnasium.
The loss moves the Skylights to 7-5 overall and 3-3 in Frontier Conference play, while Dickinson State improves to 3-10 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
Northern opened the match with a strong offensive effort from
Macy Uffelman and
Caleigh Case, who each finished with 11 kills. The Skylights battled throughout the opening set but Dickinson State used a .169 hitting percentage to take the first set 25-20.
The Skylights responded in the second set, overcoming an early Dickinson State lead before pulling away late. Northern closed the set on a 3-0 run, including a kill from
Cadee Bilden, to even the match at one set apiece with a 25-20 victory.
Dickinson State regained control in the third set, hitting .190 while limiting Northern to a .045 hitting percentage. The Blue Hawks took the set 25-19 to regain the match lead.
The fourth set remained competitive early, but Dickinson State eventually created separation and closed out the match with a 25-15 victory. The Blue Hawks hit .268 in the final set and finished the match with a .152 hitting percentage compared to Northern's .070.
Uffelman and Case led the Skylights offensively with 11 kills apiece, while
Kendall Scheffelmear added six kills. Case also recorded a team-high three blocks.
Addison Falls Down directed the Northern offense with 17 assists, while
Emily Bird added 11 assists.
Kambria Maloy led the defensive effort with 18 digs, followed by Uffelman with 16 and Bird with 13.
Northern finished the match with 36 kills, 37 assists, 73 digs and four blocks. Dickinson State recorded 50 kills, 46 assists, 80 digs and nine blocks.
The Skylights will remain on the road Saturday when they travel to Bismarck State College for a 1 p.m. Frontier Conference matchup.
