Skylights Fall to Montana Western in Three Sets

The Montana State University-Northern Skylights dropped a Frontier Conference matchup Friday evening, falling to Montana Western 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-18) at Straugh Gymnasium.

The loss moves Northern to 7-7 overall and 3-5 in Frontier Conference play. Montana Western improved to 5-10 overall and 4-4 in conference action.

Northern struggled to find its offensive rhythm throughout the match, finishing with 24 kills on 132 attacks for a .038 hitting percentage. The Bulldogs recorded 49 kills on 136 attacks and hit .243 as a team. Montana Western also held a 9-2 advantage in blocks.

Josie Hasler led the Skylights offensively with seven kills, while Macy Uffelman added six kills and a team-high 13 digs. Kendall Scheffelmear contributed four kills, while Holly Newman also finished with four.

Addison Falls Down paced the Northern offense with 12 assists, while Emily Bird added seven assists. Kambria Maloy led the defensive effort with 17 digs, followed by Uffelman with 13 and Hasler with 11.

The Skylights opened the match with five kills in the first set and hit .077, but Montana Western posted 21 kills and hit .340 to take the opening frame 25-14. Northern battled back in the second set, recording 10 kills, but the Bulldogs answered with 14 kills to take the set 25-19.

Northern produced nine kills in the third set but hit .043, while Montana Western recorded 14 kills and hit .190 to close out the match with a 25-18 victory.

Savana Warburton led Montana Western with 13 kills and 24 digs. Averi Look added 10 kills, while Jaiden Perez recorded nine kills. Kennedy Lingenfelter paced the Bulldogs at the net with six blocks.

The Skylights will look to bounce back Saturday when they travel to Butte to take on Montana Tech. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
