Great Falls, Mont.- After a stellar performance in the duals portion of the Battle of the Rockies on Friday, the No. 7 MSU-Northern Lights fell short in the Open held on Saturday.
Ben Stroh (184) won four straight matches to move on to the championship bout. He defeated Matt Walker from No. 11 Lindsey Wilson by a 7-4 decision in the final match take home the title.
Stroh was the lone champion for MSU-Northern.
In the 165-pound title match, UGF's Khaldoon Rhasid got the 6-2 decision over
Andrew Bartel.Â
Bartel went 4-5 on matches for the day and finished second overall in his weight class.
Bringing home another second place finish was
Brandon Weber (157) who wrestled unattached. He was defeated by Ryan Strop of No. 8 McKendree (Ill.) on a 7-3 decision.Â
Weber also finished 4-5 in matches on the day.
Finishing in the top five of their respective weight classes were
Matt Weber (141) placing fourth and
Robert Pair (125) finishing fifth.
The Lights will travel to Southern Oregon to take on the Raiders Dec. 15, and then journey to Reno, Nev. to wrestle in the Reno Tournament of Champions on Dec. 18.
