Story of the Game
In preseason action, the Skylight basketball team dropped their 2017 season opener to the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns in overtime 53-54.  Northern had one final chance to win the game with 1.7 seconds left on the game clock, but a short jumper from the baseline by junior forward Jessica Curl was off the mark.  

Stat of the Game
Senior guard Jacy Thompson recorded the first double-double of her final season as she had a game-high 15 points to go along with her 10 rebounds.  She was 5-16 from the floor and went 5-7 from the free throw line.

Turning Point
Northern saw a seven-point lead evaporate midway through the fourth quarter and a late shot with 58 seconds left in the game by Lethbridge tied the game at 46-46.  The Skylights had three chances at the end of the quarter to win the game off of two offensive rebound put backs, but the shots came up short as time expired sending the game into overtime.  Northern trailed by as many as three points in overtime, but Thompson tied the game two different times (converted a three-point play at the 2:47 mark and hit two free throws at the 1:38 mark).

The Skylights So Far
Northern is now 0-1 on the season.

Up Next
The Skylights will now look to defend home court as they take on the Dickinson State University Bluehawks on Friday at the Armory Gymnasium.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5PM and all game links are located on the schedule page.
