Story of the Game
In their 2017 Frontier Conference opener, the No. 21 Skylights fell to tough conference foe Rocky Mountain College 54-69. This is the first loss at home for Northern since Oct. 21 when they dropped an overtime contest to visiting University of Lethbridge.
Stat of the Game
Despite the loss, Northern saw every player score in the contest. The Skylights were led by senior guard
Brandy Lambourne with 17 points on 5-of-17 from the field. Also scoring in double figures was junior forward
Jessica Curl with 14 points on 5-of-9 shots from the field.
Turning Point
At the 5:37 mark in the first quarter, the Skylights built a seven-point lead (9-2) off of a
Curl jumper in the paint. The Battlin' Bears fought back and cut the lead to just three points at the end of the stanza with Northern up 15-12. RMC stepped up their defensive pressure and held the Skylights to just seven points in the second quarter and scored nine unanswered points in the final minutes to close out the half up 31-22. Northern went just 37.5 from the field in the third quarter and found themselves down 11 points (36-47) to RMC at the end of the period. Rocky finished out strong in the fourth quarter and were able to hold off the Skylights to secure the win.
The Skylights So Far
With the loss, Northern moves to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in Frontier Conference standings.
Up Next
The Skylights look to bounce back as they take on conference rival Carroll College tomorrow evening. The Saints come into the contest with a 5-3 preseason record. Tip-off time is scheduled for 6:00 PM at the Armory Gymnasium and game links are available on the schedule page.
