Skylights drop conference play opener to Rocky in three sets

Story of the Game
The Skylights were on the road in Billings as they took on the Battlin' Bears in their first conference game of the 2017 season.  Northern was unable to get their offensive rhythm going and lost in three straight sets to Rocky Mountain College (10-25, 12-25, 16-25).

Stats of the Game
Northern's slow start on offense set them back in each set as they lost each one by an average of 12.5 points.  The Skylights posted a dismal 0.055 hitting percentage and tallied just 22 kills compared to Rocky's 41.  Once again, Northern was led in kills by senior outside hitter Cassie Krueger who produced eight.

Turning Point
From the start of the first set, Rocky held and kept the lead until the final point.  It was much of the same story over the next two sets.  An early run in the opening plays of the third set saw the Skylights up 8-5, but an 8-point run by RMC proved to be too much as they took the third and final set 25-16.

The Skylights So Far
Northern is now 0-1 in conference play and 6-9 overall.

Up Next
The Skylights will host their first home game of Frontier Conference action when they take on the Bulldogs of Montana-Western Saturday afternoon.  The game kicks off at 2:00 PM in the Armory Gymnasium.  Live game links are available on the Skylights schedule page.
