In their second matchup of Frontier Conference play that saw two ties and nine lead changes, (RV) MSU-Northern fell to the Argos of the University of Providence 64-75. Â
Stat of the Game
Cold shooting plagued the Lights as they hit just 6-of-28 shots from behind the arc for 21 percent and went 22-of-56 from the field for 39 percent. Senior forward
Ryan Reeves led Northern with 17 points on 6-of-11 from the field and 5-of-9 from the charity stripe.
Turning Point
Northern got off to a hot start as they built an 8-0 lead to start the first half and held the lead midway through up 12-11 at the 9:36 mark. The Argos moved ahead by six at the 1:43 mark with a 32-26 lead, but the Lights answered back with two three-point shots in the closing seconds (one of which was a buzzer-beater from senior guard
Charles Porter) to cut the Argo lead to two points (34-32) at the intermission.
Early in the second half, sophomore guard
Devin Bray scored off a steal and moved the Lights ahead of the Argos 39-38. The University of Providence used their full-court pressure to regain the lead and eventually went up by 17 points at the 2:26 mark.
The Lights So Far
The loss is Northern's third straight and moves the Lights to 3-4 in conference standings and 13-6 overall.
