Northern Drops Last Home Game to Argos

Game Recap:
It was a well put-together first half for the Skylights as they played host to conference rival University of Providence on senior night.  Midway through the first quarter of action, the Lady Argos managed to build an eight-point lead to move ahead of the Skylights 12-4.  Northern answered back with a six-point run off of baskets by seniors Brandy Lambourne, Peyton Filius, and Kealani Sagapolu.  With 1:20 left in the stanza, freshman Tiara Gilham scored in the paint to tie the game up at 14-14.  In the second quarter, the Skylights went on a 7-1 run (that included an and-one conversion by Filius)  to push their lead to 21-15 at the 6:50 mark.  UP cut into the lead and moved within two points of Northern at the intermission down 25-27.  To start the second half of play, the Skylights and Argos battled as they exchanged the lead three times and tied the game twice in the first three minutes.  Sophomore guard Shiloh McCormick gave Northern their biggest lead of the game at the 3:08 mark after she connected on 2-of-2 free throws to put the lead at 40-32.  The Argos caught a break when a last second shot from deep banked in to cut the Skylight lead to 40-39 at the end of the third quarter.  In the final period, Sagapolu scored off two buckets in the paint to put the Skylights up 46-43 with 6:39 on the clock.  UP again cut into the lead and tied the game with 4:05 to play at 48-48.   From that point, Northern fell behind and was unable to regain the lead.

Stat of the Night:  Three seniors in uniform scored in double-figures on the night to lead the team.  Sagapolu paced the squad with 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting, Lambourne added 13 points off 5-of-10 from the field, and Filius chipped in 12 on 5-of-14 shooting.

The Skylights Now: Northern slips to 2-15 in the Frontier Conference and 10-18 overall.
