Game Recap:
The Northern Lights traveled to Butte to wrap up the regular-season with their third showdown against the Montana Tech Orediggers on Friday night. The first half of action started with MTT drilling a three-pointer off the opening tip, but senior guard
Charles Porter scored on the next possession to get the Lights on the board 2-3. Midway into the stanza, junior guard
Gabe Porter scored five unanswered points to spark an 11-0 run by the Lights that saw them up 31-20 at the 5:47 mark. The Orediggers slowly chipped away at the lead, but fouled sophomore guard
Adam Huse on a three-point shot with :05 left before the half. Huse went 3-of-3 from the line to extend the Northern lead to 41-26 at halftime.
Northern held the lead for the entire second half, but MTT managed to pull within two points (60-62) with 3:42 left in the contest. Senior forward
Ryan Reeves moved the Lights ahead by seven points (73-66) with 1:10 on the clock, but the Orediggers again battled back after going 3-of-4 from the charity stripe to cut the lead to 73-69 with :58 to play. Northern finished the last 40 seconds of play going 7-of-10 from the free throw line to complete the season sweep over the Orediggers 80-74.
Stat of the Night: The Lights finished the game shooting 48 percent from the field (25-of-52) and 46 percent from beyond the arc (10-of-22).
Gabe Porter led Northern from deep after he connected on 4-of-7 from the three-point line.
The Lights Now: The Lights end their regular season with a 9-9 conference record (19-11 overall).
Up Next: With the win, Northern claims the No. 4 seed in the Frontier Conference Playoffs and will host the No. 5 seed Rocky Mountain College on Tuesday, Feb. 27 in quarterfinal action.
