Lights Fall to No. 7 Montana Tech, 49–7

The MSU Northern Lights football team fell 49-7 to the No. 7 Montana Tech Orediggers.

The Orediggers used a balanced attack to wear down the Lights.  The Lights held the Orediggers to a single touchdown in the first quarter but fell apart in the second to go down 27-0 at the half.

The Lights moved the ball on offense but couldn't put it in the endzone until late in the 3rd quarter on a direct snap from jumbo formation to linebacker Braydon Cline.

Statistically the Lights had 228 yards of total offense led by Senior Wideout Devin Shelton who hit the 100-yard mark in reception yardage on 9 completions. QB Kendall O'Neill went the distance going 12 for 26 with an interception. Colter Wolstad was the top rusher with 29 yards on five carries.

The defense was led by last week's NAIA Defensive Player of the Week Spencer Lehnerz. Lehnerz racked up nine tackles form his cornerback position. Cline, as well as fellow linebacker Jackson Kink each chipped in seven tackles. The Lights added one sack on the night, as well as five tackles for losses.

The Orediggers offense exploded with 470 yards of total offense (342 were in the air). Jarrett Wilson had 16 completions for 289 yards. Ikaika ran six times for 29 yards, as Levi Torgerson led in receptions with six and total yards of 92. Webber, Arthur, and Wasson each had five tackles.

It was a tall task against the Frontier Conferences top ranked team.  The team will look to regroup next week as they travel to Mayville State on October 18 at 12pm.
