The MSU-Northern Skylights picked up a straight-set win over Mayville State in Mayville, North Dakota, on Friday afternoon (25-20, 28-26, 25-13).

Northern came out strong in the first set, taking an early 11-6 lead before the Comets responded with a 5-0 run to tie things up. Mayville pushed ahead 17-13, but the Skylights battled back with a 7-1 run to retake control. Northern closed the set on a 5-1 surge to take the opener, 25-20.

The second set was a back-and-forth battle. The Comets led 7-4 early, but Northern answered with a 6-1 run to go up 10-8. Both teams traded points down the stretch, but the Skylights finished strong, scoring the final three points to take the set 28-26.

In the third set, Northern took command early and never looked back, cruising to a 25-13 win to complete the sweep.

The Skylights posted 43 kills with a .228 hitting percentage, along with nine blocks, 42 assists, and 91 digs. Macee Selman led the way with an all-around performance — 16 kills on .500 hitting, 16 assists, and 20 digs. Macy Uffelman added nine kills (.348), Addison Falls chipped in 19 assists, and Baily Egan anchored the defense with 35 digs.

Mayville State finished with 34 kills and a .032 hitting percentage. Desidy Schwanke led the Comets with 10 kills and 15 digs, while Lindsey Nyhagen tallied 16 assists and Tori Richter added 27 digs.

With the win, the Skylights improve to 12-9 overall and 10-5 in conference play. Northern will be back in action on October 18 when they face Valley City State at 1 p.m.
