Bellevue Outlasts Lights in High-Scoring Battle, 93–88

Montana State University–Northern went toe-to-toe with undefeated Bellevue on Friday night, but a late push by the Bruins proved to be the difference as Bellevue held on for a 93–88 victory at the BU Fieldhouse.

The game was tight from start to finish. Bellevue held a narrow 41–39 lead at the half, and neither team managed to create much separation until the final minutes. The Bruins capitalized on key defensive stops and strong free-throw shooting in the second half, outscoring Northern 52–49 to seal the win and move to 7–0 on the season.

Despite the loss, the Lights showcased one of their most efficient offensive performances. Cinque Maxwell paced Northern with 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting while adding three assists. Leon Sayers IV was a force around the rim, posting 16 points and a strong. Luke Holecek added 19 points and kept Northern within striking distance throughout the second half.

Bellevue countered with a trio of standout scorers. Ahamad Bynum led all scorers with 23 points and three steals, while Jaden Phillips added 22 points and two threes. RJ Smith provided a major lift off the bench, going 8-for-9 from the floor for 21 points and grabbing six rebounds.

The Bruins' ability to get to the free-throw line played a key role down the stretch. Bellevue finished 30-of-39 from the stripe, compared to Northern's 15-of-21. The Bruins also won the rebounding battle 34–27, creating additional scoring chances that proved crucial in a game decided by just five points.
