Skylights Control All Four Quarters in 74–58 Victory Over Stephens

Montana State University-Northern hung on to a consistent edge all night and defeated Stephens 74–56, executing with balanced scoring, better shooting, and stronger rebounding to cruise to victory.

From the start, the game was competitive — the first quarter ended 20–17 in favor of Northern. But as the game progressed, Northern began to assert control. Their offense flowed with multiple players contributing and capitalizing on open looks, while their defensive effort and board work began to wear down the opposing team.

A big reason for Northern's success was their efficiency. They shot 41.8 perent from the field compared to Stephens' 38.9 percent, and drilled 44.0 percent from three versus Stephens' 22.7 percent. On the foul line they were even more dominant: converting 85.0 percent of free throws while limiting Stephens to 68.8 percent.

On the glass, Northern grabbed 35 rebounds to Stephens' 26 — a difference that translated into extra possessions and second-chance opportunities. In fact, they turned those advantages into 13 points off second-chance rebounds and 19 points off turnovers, compared with just 4 and 12, respectively, for Stephens.

Defensively, Northern held Stephens in check, limiting their three-point shooting and forcing them into difficult looks. Stephens managed only 5 made triples on 22 attempts (22.7 percent), which prevented them from ever seriously threatening a comeback.

By the second half, Northern's lead had grown comfortable. Their combination of outside shooting, inside presence, and discipline at the free throw line allowed them to maintain and gradually extend the lead — turning what started as a tight game into a clear win.
