MSU-Northern Coach
Shawn Huse has announced the signing of 6-foot-2 Guard Austin Ramos from Meridian, Idaho. Austin's shooting ability and playmaking on both ends were key to Walla Walla securing an NWAC East Region Championship this season with an overall record of 23-6. During his time at Walla Walla, Austin averaged 14.2 PPG shooting 48 percent from the field and 44percent from the three-point line, while also adding 5.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game for his career there which spanned over the course of the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons.
Coach Huse had this to say regarding Austin joining the Lights, "Austin is another high character guy we are adding to the mix and look for great things from right away. He possesses something that is hard to coach – an elite shooting ability. He is as great of a shooter that we have had sign here at Northern, but can also make plays off the bounce. He has very good athleticism, is an excellent defender & rebounder, and knows how to play at the point guard position when needed. He is a very poised player who gives us a scoring punch that we are looking for and need."
During the 2024-2025 season, Austin suffered a near season-ending injury causing him to miss seven games down the stretch of their season. Going into that stretch Austin was averaging almost 16 PPG on 54 percent shooting from the field and 49.3 percent from three. Austin ranked 2
nd among all NWAC players in three-point percentage this season at 47.2 percent and was undoubtedly a key reason behind Walla Walla winning a Region championship despite his unfortunate injury. Coach Huse added in reference to Austin's 2024-2025 campaign, "Given the nature and timing of his injury, Austin flew under the radar a little this year. Especially since it was in the homestretch of their season. He was one of their big three contributors who significantly helped them be in place to earn their Region championship this season. He looked great and fit in well with our guys on his visit. I just feel like his best basketball lies ahead, and we cannot wait to have him on the floor in a Lights uniform next year."
Not only is Austin a lethal shooter from three-point range but his mind for the game and nature of being a great teammate stand out as well, as Coach Huse adds, "Austin's basketball IQ is very high. Coach Reinland did an outstanding job with him in his system. He is a guy who knows how to be a big-time threat, while working with his team and doing other things as well.". Along with his ability on the court, off the court Austin is an outstanding student that will also make a huge impact in the classroom and on campus. At Northern, Austin will be earning his degree in business and looks forward to interacting and working with both the faculty and his peers on campus.
MSU-Northern is coming off an unusually challenging season. One that began with a key injury in their starting lineup and lingered throughout the year. Northern graduates six seniors, returns a solid core of players and along with Austin, are making great additions to their roster this off-season.
