MSU-Northern Coach
Shawn Huse has announced the signing of 6'2" Guard Claysen Delp from Zillah, Washington. Claysen's talent and drive on both ends of the floor we're a huge bright spot for Yakima Valley CC this year and will translate to the Armory floor next season. Clay is a member of the 2024-25 NWAC East Region All-Defensive team as well as the overall 2
nd team in the NWAC East Region. He earned these honors by averaging 18.5 PPG on 49.7% shooting from the field, along with 5.1 RPG, 3.9 APG, and 1.9 SPG. Clay ranked #11 in the NWAC Steals per game category, and #14 in Assists per game. Notable performances include a 22-point game on February 12
th in a win over an Elite 8 team in Treasure Valley, where Clay went 9 of 14 from the field knocking down 2 of 4 triples, also adding 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal to his scoring contributions.
Before his time at Yakima Valley CC, Clay played at Zillah High School and jumped on Northern's radar early through former Light's forward and key starter now teacher/coach,
Justin Dunsmore. Coach Huse had this to say about the type of player and person he is, "Clay is a guy we watched all year and we knew fit our program. He has a remarkable resemblance in many ways, of former Lights great CJ Nelson. Toughness, great hustle, and consistent effort are some of the key qualities Clay possesses as a basketball player. He is another high character guy who plays winning basketball, has a great motor, makes shots, and makes plays on both ends of the court. Not to mention, Clay is an outstanding teammate with excellent communication skills, and is what many call a 'glue guy,' as everyone likes playing alongside him. Words cannot express how excited we are to have him on board moving forward with our returners and signees."
To coincide with his abilities on the floor, Clay is also a great student who will no doubt have a huge impact on Northern's campus, classroom, and community. Once here, Clay will be earning a Physical Education degree while also studying in the Integrated Health Sciences program.
MSU-Northern is coming off an unusually challenging season. One that began with a key injury in their starting lineup and lingered throughout the year. Northern graduates six seniors, returns a solid core of players and along with Claysen, are making great additions to their roster this off-season.
