MSU-Northern Men's Basketball has recently added 6'7" forward, Arthur "Art" Grady Jr of Stockton, California, to their roster. He played the past two seasons for the very talented Hawks of Cosumnes River Community College in Sacramento, CA. Art helped his team post a #11 final State ranking (108 teams), a 23-6 overall record, and a 2
nd place finish in the loaded Big 8 conference, just one game behind Final 4 qualifiers Santa Rosa CC. Shooting 54% from the field this year after coming off injury that got him a delayed start to the season, Art is a low post player who rotated in the paint on a team that rolled out one of the biggest forward rotations in all of California. He is another guy that fits well for the Lights both on and off the court. Not only does he provide an outstanding paint presence on the court with his physical style, strength, touch, rebounding, and defense around the rim, but he is a tremendous student and person off the court as well.
Speaking on behalf of Art's character, dedication, and work ethic, Head Coach Jonathan James says, "Arthur has been a pleasure to coach. I have watched him grow and mature into not only a great player, but an even better young man. He will forever be committed to contributing to winning. I am proud to see him continue his athletic and academic goals with a great coach in Coach Huse and the MSUN family."
"Art is a true big who brings so much to the table that compliments who we are right now," says Lights Head Coach
Shawn Huse. "He is an active, positive guy who communicates extremely well and gives everything he needs to help a team be successful. After regaining his health, he rotated in very well with their big lineup and made a vital impact last season. We feel his best basketball is yet to come, and are equally excited about the type of person Arthur Grady Jr is. Simply put, he is a fantastic contributing teammate both on and off the court, and we cannot be more excited to have him in the mix."
The Lights are coming off a very good season. One that saw them win 18 games, reach the conference championship game, and narrowly miss a trip to the NAIA National Tournament. They graduate one starter and two reserves, yet return a talented accomplished group filled with experience and firepower for the 2026-27 campaign.
