MSU-Northern Coach
Shawn Huse has announced the signing of 6-foot-2 Guard Tracen Jilot from Box Elder, Montana. Tracen's resume and accolades over the course of his high school career speak for themselves. Tracen is Box Elder High School's all-time leading scorer, a 3x Montana High School All-State team member, and led Box Elder to back-to-back basketball state championships in 2023-24 and 2024-25. Averaging 28.0 PPG this season, along with 3 APG and 4 SPG, Tracen has cemented his legacy in Box Elder and will be a tremendous addition to Lights program going forward.
Coach Huse had this to say about Tracen, "Tracen has always impressed me with the person he is and how he plays the game. I have watched him compete since he was young, and he has always been a guy who earns individual accomplishments while looking out for his team at the same time. I consider him to be a humble guy who operates as a true, poised teammate, yet has a fearless tenacity when plays are needed for his team. He makes winning plays on both ends of the floor and I am confident his game will translate to the collegiate level.".
Tracen is also a multi-sport athlete who helped lead Box Elder to a football state championship this past season as a wide receiver. After suffereing an injury during their football run, Tracen battled back in early February to help the basketball team hit their stride heading into the late stretch of the season, propelling them through the post season and the state tournament.
Those surrounding Tracen and Box Elder High School basketball have played a big part in his success. Coach Huse added, "I have always felt Tracen has been brought up extremely well. His family and community support and guidance have been amazing. He has played with a group of teammates for many years now, and his growth has been facilitated by one of the best to do it in Coach McDonald, along with his staff and many others.". Along with the player he is on the court, Tracen is also very good in the classroom and plans to study electrical technology and business at MSU-Northern.
MSU-Northern is coming off an unusually challenging season. One that began with a key injury in their starting lineup and lingered throughout the year. Northern graduates six seniors, returns a solid core of players and along with Tracen, are making great additions to their roster this off-season.
