On Friday night in
Havre, Montana, the
Montana State University-Northern men's basketball team used a balanced offensive attack and strong shooting to earn an
82–61 victory over
Mayville State in Frontier Conference action.
Northern jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, leading 37–36 at halftime before pulling away in the second half with efficient scoring and solid defense.
Cinque Maxwell paced the Lights with
16 points and 7 rebounds, showcasing his all-around impact on both ends of the court.
Leon Sayers IV added
15 points, knocking down multiple three-pointers to help stretch the lead.
Austin Ramos contributed
11 points, while
Raefe McEnroe chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds, giving Northern multiple scoring threats throughout the lineup.
The Lights shot
47.5 percent from the field and an impressive 46.7 percent from three-point range, helping fuel the second-half surge. The Lights also made
80 percent of their free throws, maintaining offensive pressure and consistency at the line.
For Mayville State,
Darius Brant led the Comets with 12 points, and
Malik Siggers added 10, but the team couldn't keep pace with Northern's scoring balance and defensive intensity in the second half.
The Lights move to 15-8 overall and 10-7 in Conference. The Lights play at home against Valley City State at 7pm.
