The MSU-Northern Skylights picked up a decisive conference win on Saturday, sweeping Mayville State in three sets (25-10, 25-13, 25-23).
Northern came out strong in the opening set, using multiple scoring runs to dominate 25-10. The second set saw the Skylights take control midway through with an 8-0 run, closing it out 25-13. The Comets fought back in the third, jumping ahead 8-3 early. Northern rallied to grab a 13-10 lead, and after several back-and-forth points, the Skylights sealed the match with a 6-3 run for the 25-23 win.
The Skylights tallied 39 kills with a .252 hitting percentage, nine aces, 38 assists, and 59 digs. Macee Selman had a standout all-around performance with 11 kills on .346 hitting, along with 11 assists and 11 digs. Emily Bird handed out 22 assists and added nine digs, while Baily Egan anchored the defense with 17 digs.
Mayville State finished with 23 kills, a .027 hitting percentage, four blocks, and 50 digs. Cheyann Johnson led the Comets with six kills, Lindsey Nyhagen added 10 assists, and Tori Richter posted a team-high 16 digs.
With the win, the Skylights move to 5-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play. They return to action next weekend, visiting Dickinson State on Friday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. before facing Bismarck State on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. in Bismarck, N.D.
