Box Score The MSU-Northern Skylights picked up a straight-set sweep over Bismarck State on the road Friday night, winning 25-19, 25-10, 30-28.
Northern set the tone early in the first set, jumping out to a 6-2 lead. The Mystics tied the frame at 11-11, but the Skylights responded with a 12-2 run to reach set point. Bismarck held off briefly with a 4-0 push, but Northern closed it out. The Skylights carried that momentum into the second set, starting on a 14-4 run and never looking back in a dominant 25-10 win.
The third set was a battle. Bismarck rallied to tie it at 11-11 and stretched their lead to 19-15, but Northern stormed back with a 4-0 run to even the score. From there, it was a back-and-forth fight until the Skylights finished strong, 30-28, to complete the sweep.
The Skylights posted 50 kills on a .333 hitting percentage, with nine blocks, 45 assists, and 60 digs. Macee Selman led with 15 kills and 17 assists, while Emily Bird dished out 26 assists. Bailey Egan anchored the defense with 16 digs.
Bismarck State recorded 37 kills, hitting .139 as a team. Chelsea Korn led the Mystics with 11 kills (.556), while Piper Harris collected 18 digs. Delaney Deschamp and Kate Zimmer each tallied 16 assists.
With the win, the Skylights improve to 7-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play. Northern now returns home to host Dakota State on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m., before playing Bellevue on Saturday at 5 p.m. following the football game.
