Montana State University–Northern earned an 84–73 victory over Providence on Tuesday night, using a fast start and balanced scoring to control the game from start to finish.
The Skylights set the tone early, jumping out to a 27–17 lead in the first quarter behind efficient shooting and strong defensive pressure. Northern continued to build momentum in the second quarter, pushing the advantage to 46–31 at halftime and forcing Providence to play from behind the rest of the night.
Providence showed resilience in the second half, finding offensive rhythm and cutting into the deficit with several scoring runs. Eliannah Ramirez led the Argonauts' comeback efforts with a game-high 22 points, while Ainsley Thurber added 19 points and Layne Rogel chipped in 15. Despite the push, Northern answered each run with timely baskets to maintain control.
Skylights relied on a balanced offensive attack, led by Lauren Gunn's 16 points. Ciera Agasiva and Taya Trottier each added 14 points, helping the Skylights keep Providence at arm's length down the stretch. Canzas HisBadHorse added a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Northern's consistency on offense and ability to convert key possessions proved decisive late in the game.
In the end, the early lead and steady production from multiple scorers allowed Montana State–Northern to secure the 11-point win, while Providence showed flashes of offensive firepower but couldn't fully overcome the first-half deficit.
The Skylights move to 13-6 overall and 9-5 in Conference. The Skylights will have a weekend off. They will play Dickinson State in Dickinson on January 30 and head down the road to play Bismarck State the next night.
