Northern Track Compete at Montana Open

The Montana State-Northern Lights and Skylights turned in several solid performances across distance events at the meet, highlighted by strong efforts from both the men's and women's squads.

On the men's side, James Stensland-Plymale led the way with a pair of distance races. He placed 12th in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:13.48 (PB), then followed it up with an 8th-place finish in the 5000 meters, clocking 16:25.08 (PB). His performance in the 5K earned a top-10 finish in a competitive field and marked a personal best.

For the Skylights, the distance group also showed progress. Elizabeth DeVries competed in the 800 meters, finishing 14th in 2:46.63 (PB). In the 1500 meters, Northern had three athletes compete, led by Emerson Kinsella, who placed 10th with a time of 5:31.51 (PB). She was followed by Deserae Toombs in 11th (5:33.64) and DeVries again in 13th (6:01.70).

The Skylights continued their success in the longer distances during the 5000 meters, where Kinsella delivered a standout performance with a 2nd-place finish in 20:36.21 (PB). Toombs added another strong result, placing 3rd in 21:02.14, giving MSU-N a pair of podium finishes in the event.

Overall, Montana State-Northern showed steady improvement in the distance events, with multiple personal bests and podium finishes highlighting a productive meet for both the Lights and Skylights.
