Montana State University Northern volleyball coach
Jerry Wagner has announced the signing of two Huntley Project High School standouts Josie Hasler and Macee Murphy to join the Skylight program next fall.
"I'm absolutely thrilled that Josie and Macee have chosen to join the Skylights" said Coach Wagner. "I would have been thrilled to get one player of this caliber, but we are fortunate to get two of them!"
Josie Hasler is a 5-foot-6 outside hitter/defensive specialist from Huntley, Montana. This season Josie was ranked first in digs per-match with 43. She was ranked fifth in career kills with 1190. Sixth in kills per game with 27. She was also ranked ninth in career digs with 1472. Hasler was a four-year varsity player. She has received All-Conference from 2019-2021. She was named All-State her Junior and Senior year. This year she was recognized as State MVP.Â
Hasler also gets it done in the classroom, as well as the court. She is on the National Honor Society with a GPA of 3.5. She also earned Honors English for two years. She will be joining our Elementary Education major with a special education minor. She not only played Volleyball, for she played basketball and track and field. They were state champions her Freshman year.
Josie is the daughter of Chad and Kamee Hasler. When asked why she chose Northern she replied "I really enjoy the atmosphere and I have a strong education program. I also feel like I can grow my knowledge in volleyball."
"I really enjoy the fact that Josie's parents met and both graduated from Northern. Josie's mother Kamee competed in both Basketball and Volleyball for the Skylights."Â Â
Macee Murphy is a 5-foot-7 setter from Ballantine, Montana. She attended high school at Huntley Project. In her career rankings, she was seventh in blocks (129), third in digs (1782), and seventh in assists (2,028). Macee is also a four-year varsity player. Murphy was All-Conference the last three years and All-State the last two years.
Murphy was also good in the classroom with a 3.6 GPA. She was also Academic All-State all four years. She will be joining our Elementary Education major with a special education minor. She also stared in track and field and basketball. In 2018, track and field won state.
Macee is the daughter of Bill and Tammy Murphy. When asked why she chose Northern she replied "Because of the growing volleyball program and they have a beautiful campus."
Their team won state three out of the four years they have been there. When they didn't win, they were Runners up. Their team also was honored with State Tournament Team for the last three years.
"Recruiting is about getting the correct fit academically and athletically and both areas lined up perfectly for Macee and Josie. They will both be majoring in Elementary Education/ Special Education and their volleyball talents will fit the needs of our team. They will be joining a team that is focused on academics, family and the drive to raise our level of play in the frontier conference."
"Both Macee and Josie are outstanding students, athletes, leaders, and competitors. They have been extremely well coached by Iona Stookey, who is now the most successful High School Volleyball coach in Montana. Their team and individual accomplishments over their high school careers speak for themselves. I believe they had successful careers because they both know what it takes to make a team work. They play with desire and determination, they are excellent teammates, and they truly love the game."Â
