Montana State University-Northern Head Cross Country Coach Deborah Callahan announced the signing of Elizabeth DeVries to join the Cross Country and Distance Track program in the fall.
"I'm very excited that Elizabeth will be coming to MSU-Northern and joining our Cross Country and Track team" said Coach Callahan. "Her energy is contagious, and her determination will strengthen the team. She eagerly anticipates becoming a SKYLIGHT!"
Elizabeth is from Roberts, Montana, who competed at Varsity level throughout her years of high school. Her personal best time for the 5000M cross country event is a time of 20.54. In track, she achieved a best of 1:06 in the 400M, 2:36 in the 800M, 5:44 in the 1600M, and 13:08 in the 3200M. She contributed significantly to her team's Class B State Championship victories in 2023 and 2024. Elizabeth earned All-State honors during her junior and senior years, finishing seventh in her junior year and ninth in her senior year. Due to Roberts' status as a Class B school with limited enrollment, Elizabeth also participated in basketball when she was not running and received All-Conference recognition in basketball during her senior year.
"Elizabeth is a leader and dedicated athlete in all the activities she participated in, which included cross country, basketball, track, FFA and student council" states Darryl Grove, Cross Country Coach and Activities Director for Roberts Schools. "She is a hard-working individual and pushes her teammates to excel because she wants the team to do well and wants them to succeed. I am excited for Elizabeth and looking forward to seeing what she accomplishes at the college level in sports.
DeVries excelled in the classroom and was honored with Academic All-State all four years of high school with a current GPA of 3.79. Elizabeth will be majoring in Nursing.
Elizabeth is the daughter of Randy and Charlotte DeVries. "We are incredibly proud of her and her remarkable running journey," states Charlotte. "She began her cross-country journey as a sophomore as the only runner on the team, and through her dedication and leadership the program grew, and she had a vital role in leading the Lady Rockets to two State Championships! We are excited to watch her continue her journey as she takes on the collegiate level."
When asked why she chose Northern he replied, "I chose MSUN because of their atmosphere as a team and the small campus."
