Montana State University-Northern Head Cross Country Coach
Deborah Callahan announced the signing of Miya Kemp to join the Cross Country and Distance Track program in the fall.

"She has a very quiet and steady demeanor but is ready for the next challenge. She works hard, believes in being a team player and understands the balance between academics and playing sports." "

Miya is joining the Skylights program as a sophomore as a transfer from Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri where she played basketball. Kemp attended school in her hometown, Dawson Creek, British Columbia and graduated in 2025. She was a cross country and track athlete with 5000 meters best of 22.09. She also ran 100 meters and 400 meters.
Miya participated in basketball alongside her running activities where she received Basketball All-Star (Northern Zones-Prince George, BC in 2024; Basketball All-Star (NCL, Grande Prairie, Alberta in 2024 and Athlete of the Year for Dawson Creek Secondary School in 2023. Along with sports, she received numerous Academic Honours in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025 and maintained a GPA of 4.0.
Miya is the daughter of Johannes and Marisa Kemp. As a freshman at Central Methodist University, she is on the Dean's List, 2025-26 Academic Awardee for the Division of Science, Math and Computer Science and currently carries a 4.0 GPA. Miya has always pushed for success, grabbing opportunities and making things happen. Her move to MSU-N for running shows nothings changed." stated her parents. "We're so proud of her hustle and can't wait to cheer her on. Go Miya!".
Miya plans to major in Biology (pre-med) with an interest in becoming a doctor. When asked why she chose Northern, she replied, "I chose MSU-N to be closer to my hometown in Canada and because its academic and cross-country programs strongly appealed to me after researching the school." "The coaching and team culture convinced me it was the best fit for me." Coach Callahan states "We look forward to her contribution to the team and watching her grow here at Northern!"
