Northern Rodeo Competed in two competitions in Miles City

Montana State University-Northern continued its spring rodeo season with a pair of steady performances from both the Lights and Skylights, highlighted by a standout individual win and contributions across multiple events.

On the men's side, the Lights finished fourth overall with 80 team points. Zane Akune led the way for MSU-Northern, placing seventh in the men's all-around standings with 30 points. Akune showed versatility by earning points in tie-down roping, where he placed eighth with a time of 13.3, and in team roping as a header, finishing eighth with a 12.8 run.

Also contributing in team roping were Talan Cummins and Clayton Three Irons. The duo placed seventh overall, turning in a 9.3 time as header and heeler, respectively, to add to the Lights' total.

On the women's side, the Skylights secured a fourth-place team finish with 150 points, powered by a dominant performance in barrel racing from Cayda Dodginghorse. Dodginghorse claimed the event title with a winning time of 28.08, tying for first overall and delivering the top highlight of the weekend for MSU-Northern.

Overall, MSU-Northern saw key individual success and valuable point contributions on both the men's and women's sides, with Dodginghorse's event win and Akune's all-around effort leading the charge as the Lights and Skylights continue their season.

Montana State University-Northern turned in a competitive showing on both the men's and women's sides in the second rodeo in Miles City.

The Lights finished sixth in the men's team standings with 10 points, with their top performance coming in steer wrestling. Brier Selvidge led the way by placing seventh overall with a 9.5 run, providing the lone scoring effort for the men's team.

On the women's side, the Skylights had a strong outing, finishing second overall with 180 team points. Kenda Statham paced MSU-Northern with a third-place finish in the women's all-around, totaling 95 points. Statham showed consistency across events, adding a fourth-place finish in barrel racing (28.02) and a seventh-place result in goat tying (14.0).

The Skylights also saw depth in barrel racing, where multiple athletes placed. Cayda Dodginghorse secured a sixth-place finish with a time of 28.04, while Brooklin Baukol added a seventh-place run at 28.22.

Overall, MSU-Northern's women's team delivered a well-rounded performance highlighted by Statham's all-around effort and strong finishes in barrel racing, while the Lights picked up points on the men's side through Selvidge's steer wrestling run.
