Montana State University-Northern Head Cross Country Coach Deborah Callahan announced the signing of Donovan AimsBack to join the Cross Country and Distance Track program in the fall.
"I'm very excited that Donovan will be coming to MSU-Northern and joining our Cross Country and track team" said Coach Callahan. "Not only is this young man dedicated and determined to succeed both in and out of the classroom, but he also has a deep commitment to preserving and honoring his cultural heritage. We look forward to his contribution to the team."
Donovan, from Browning, Montana, excels in Cross Country and Track. His personal best for the 5000M is 17.09, with a current ranking of seventh. He is a four-time State Qualifier, contributing to his team's Class A State Championship in 2023 and third -place finish in 2024. In track, Donovan's personal best is 2:11 for the 800M, 4:58 for the 1600M, and 10:50 for the 3200M.
Donovan has distinguished himself as an exceptional student -athlete, earning the title of state champion and establishing himself as one of the top runners in school history" said Kellen Hall, AD for the Browning High School. "His dedication, discipline and sportsmanship have made him a standout representative of the Browning Indians, both on and off the field."
Donovan excelled academically, making the Honor roll all four years of high school. In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Donovan is also recognized as one of Browning's leading students in the revitalization and use of the Blackfeet language. At Northern, he will study Criminal Justice and with a minor in Psychology.
He is the son of Carl and Stephanie AimsBack. His mom, Stephanie AimsBack shared the following "Son, we are so proud of the man you have become. Your kindness, determination and sense of humor fill us with joy. Never forget how special you are to us. We will always be your biggest supporter."Â
When asked why he chose Northern he replied, "Recruiters approached me and gave me a campus tour, and I really enjoyed it, and it feels like home."
