The Skylights jumped out to an early lead Thursday night at the Fortin Center but it did not last long, as the Lady Battlin' Bears retook the lead for good with 5:43 remaining in the 1st quarter. Three Skylight seniors did all the 1st quarter scoring as
Peyton Filius dropped in five, and
Brandy Lambourne andÂ
Kealani Sagapolu accounted for two each. Sophomore
Shiloh McCormick connected for four points in the first quarter as well. The future is bright for the Skylights as freshman
Tiara Gilham started the 2nd quarter scoring for her team, as she banked in a layup with 8:17 remaining in the half. At that point the Skylights were down 10 at 14-24. Filius finished the 1st half leading scorer for the Skylights with eight, followed by McCormick with six and Gilham with four. In the 2nd half,
Brandy Lambourne caught on finishing the half with seven and had a total of nine for the game on 2-9 from the field. She totaled 4-4 on her free throws and also dished out seven assists. Skylight junior forward
Jessica Curl got involved in the scoring in the 2nd half, netting four points on 2-2 from the field. The Skylights accumulated 10 steals on the night, with McCormick leading in that category with four on the night. Sagapolu trailed close behind with three of her own. Â
Stat of the Game: Turnovers add up. The Skylights were marked for 24 to the Lady Battlin' Bears' 16. On a positive note, the Skylights have made an impressive 18-20 free throws over their last two games.Â
The Skylights Now: The MSU-Northern women haven't been able to right the ship, but they won't have to wait long for another opportunity to earn a W.Â
Up Next for the Skylights: They take to the road for a visit to Carroll College on Saturday, February 3rd. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Carroll's PE center.
