Montana State University-Northern head rodeo coach Doug Kallenberger has announced the signing of Zane Akune to join the Lights program next year.
Zane is 6-foot-2 that participates in Team roping, and calf roping. He is from New Dayton, Alberta. Akune is the season leader of Team roping at the AHSRA this year. In 2024, he took home the Provincial Title in Trap Shooting at the AHSRA.
Zane will be majoring in electrical technologies next year.
When asked why he chose Northern he replied "I'm joining the rodeo team at Montana State University–Northern because I've always had a passion for rodeo and want to compete at a higher-level while being part of a strong, supportive team. MSU-Northern's rodeo program has a great reputation, and I'm especially excited to work with the coach, whose experience and leadership I respect and believe will help me grow both as an athlete and a person. At the same time, I'm enrolling in the electrical program because I want to build a stable, hands-on career in a field that's always in demand. MSU-Northern offers the perfect balance and an opportunity to chase my passion for rodeo while gaining valuable skills and education in a trade that will support me for life."
