Junior saddle bronc rider Josh Dobbins brings experience, determination, and a strong rodeo background to the MSU-Northern men's rodeo team. Hailing from Pocatello, Idaho, Dobbins stands at 5-foot-8 and is competing in one of rodeo's most demanding events, where timing, balance, and grit are essential.
Dobbins chose MSU-Northern for its highly respected electrical technology program, pairing his academic goals with the opportunity to continue competing at a high level in rodeo. The hands-on training offered in the program aligns with his long-term career aspirations in the electrical trade, while the rodeo team allows him to keep pushing forward in saddle bronc riding against top competition.
Before arriving at MSU-Northern, Dobbins competed for two years at the College of Southern Idaho, where he focused on saddle bronc riding and served as a rough stock team captain. His leadership and dedication helped contribute to the team's efforts in collegiate rodeo competitions.
Dobbins built an impressive rodeo résumé prior to his collegiate career. He is a three-time Idaho State Qualifier in both saddle bronc riding and calf roping, as well as a two-time district reserve champion. He also qualified twice for the RMPRA Finals in saddle bronc riding and earned back-to-back West Yellowstone Rodeo year-end championships. His success across multiple events highlights his versatility and competitive drive.
Dobbin chose Northern because "I chose MSU-Northern because of its highly respected electrician program and the opportunity to continue competing in rodeo at a high level. The hands-on training and pathway into the electrical trade align with my long-term career goals, while the rodeo program gives me the chance to keep progressing in saddle bronc riding and compete against strong competition."
