Montana State University-Northern women's basketball coach
Chris Mouat has announced the signing of Shania Moananu to join the Skylights program in the fall. Moananu is a 5'6" guard from Peninsula College in Port Angeles, Washington.
This season, Moananu averaged 9.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. She shot 43% from the field and 39% from the three-point line. During her two-year career at Peninsula, she recorded 22 double-figure scoring games for the Pirates. Peninsula finished with an overall record of 24-3 and advanced to the Final Four of the NWAC Tournament.
As a freshman, Moananu was named both the Freshman of the Year and the Most Valuable Player of the North Region. She helped the Pirates to an overall record of 22-3 and an appearance in the Elite 8 of the NWAC Tournament.
Mouat said, "We are thrilled to have Shania on board. She is a great competitor, teammate, and leader. She can play a number of positions on the floor and has had a ton of success. She has been well-coached at Peninsula, playing in one of the premier teams in the NWAC. She shoots very good percentages and can score at all three levels and is a very sound defender. We look forward to her progress in a Skylight uniform."
Moananu is a 2023 graduate of Punahou High School in Kalihi, Hawaii where she was a four-year varsity player. She is the daughter of Solo and Sei Moananu. She carries a 3.83 grade point average and plans on majoring in nursing at MSU-Northern.
