Barry Zanto and Dan Shepherd, KOJM/KPQX radio broadcaster, have been the “Voice of the Lights and Skylights” for the last 30 years. They not only broadcast the University games, but the whole gamut of local sports contests and are also known as the voice of Blue Pony Sports having broadcast thousands of games for Class AA, A B and C high school and college sports, playoffs and championships. They will receive the Hall of Fame Meritorious Service Award for their contributions to Northern Athletics and all Montana sports.

 Barry Zanto, a Geraldine, Montana native, is a 1970 NMC graduate and was a teacher and administrator with Havre Public Schools until his retirement in 2005. In 1967, he won the college championship doubles bowling championship with his partner, John Olson, competing against the College of Great Falls, Montana State University, the University of Montana, and Western Montana College. He began working for KOJM-AM, now KPQX, with Dan Shepherd as a statistician in 1977 and is the other member of the “Voice of the Lights and Skylights” duo that has earned statewide recognition and respect for their professional broadcasts of the MSU-Northern, Blue Pony, and north-central area sport events. He was the athletic director at Havre Middle School for 25 years and coached basketball for ten years, football for 29 years and track for 35 years. Zanto was the runner-up for Young Teacher of the Year for the Havre Jaycees in 1972. He has served on local Board of Directors for the Havre Bowling Association, Havre Youth Baseball Association, Men’s Golf Association, Northern Lights Athletic and Scholarship Foundation, and the NMC Alumni Association. Zanto is a member of the Lions Club and is an Adoptive Parent for Skylight and Light basketball programs and now works part-time for Herberger’s in Havre
