Alumnus Charles Goligoski lettered in basketball, baseball and tennis for two years at Northern and served as sports editor for the NoMoCo student newspaper from 1950 to 1951. He was named second team All-conference for the 1950-51 season and was the Montana Small College singles tennis champion in 1951. He so impresses the scouts at the Regional National Junior College basketball tournament, he was offered a scholarship to Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. He served as a varsity assistant basketball coach and freshmen basketball coach at Gonzaga until 1955, when he received an ROTC commission as a 2nd lieutenant in the US Army.

 He returned to civilian life in 1957 as a high school teacher and coach at Republic Washington, coached and taught at Butte Central High School, was a graduate assistant varsity basketball coach at MSU-Bozeman, and had an outstanding career as head basketball, head cross country, assistant football, assistant track coach and teacher at Flathead High School. His teams played for the stat4 title in basketball three straight years, 1968 to 1970, winning the championship in 1970. He served as chairman of the English Department from 1980 until his retirement in 1990.
