Kyle is a native of Helena, MT. He graduated from Capital High School in 2003, where he was the starting quarterback for two years earning all-state honors as both a junior and senior. Samson was a member of the 2002 State Championship team and was named the AA Offensive MVP as well as the Gatorade player of the year for the State of Montana. After graduation, Kyle attended the University of Montana. He played quarterback for the Grizzlies as a true freshman.
Kyle then transferred to MSU-Northern in the Spring of 2004 after his dad Mark was named the new head football coach. Kyle was Northern’s starting quarterback from 2004 -2006 as well as a three-year captain. Kyle was a three-time all-conference selection (2004-2006) and two time All American selection (2005, 2006). He was also named the Frontier Conference's Most Valuable Player in 2006. He was also a 3 Time Academic All-Conference Selection and was the recipient of the National Football Foundations Scholar Athlete of the year award, his senior year. His Senior year, he was also selected as MSU-Northern Student Excellence Award Winner. Kyle was the quarterback of Northern’s best year of Football in the history of the school in 2006. They made the National Playoffs for the only time in school history. During his tenure, Kyle Set 21 School Records.
Kyle is Currently the Head Football Coach at Montana Tech.
Previous to Tech he was the Head Football Coach at Flathead High School in Kalispell for 5 Years.
He started his coaching career at MSU-Northern where he was the Offensive Coordinator and QB Coach for 7 years between 2007-2013. Under Samsons Direction, the Lights Offense was ranked In the Top 10 in the nation from 2010-2013.
Kyle earned his bachelors degree in Health/Physical Education from Northern in 2007. Kyle has been married for 12 years to the former Brooke Schwan of Havre. She is a 2nd grade teacher in Butte. Kyle and Brooke have 3 children. Their son Troy is 10, their daughter Jordyn is 8 and their youngest son Beau is 4.
